We are very proud to announce our engagement by RFC Group, to assist with the electrical engineering design for the Brisbane Metro Depot in Rochedale.
In conjunction with ADCO builders, the $64 million project includes the design and construction of the new facility that will maintain and operate the initial fleet of 60 Metro vehicles, while incorporating a design that allows for future expansion.
The new depot will provide:
“This is a major infrastructure development which is expected to take two years to build, in time for the delivery of the full Metro vehicle fleet,” Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.
The building design specification for the metro depot will achieve a 5 Star Green Star certification rating. Green Star is Australia’s largest voluntary and holistic sustainability rating system for buildings, fit outs and communities.
As part of achieving this rating, a large solar photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the buildings. The system, which is targeting 1 megawatt, will help offset some of the operational demands of the metros and substantially reduce the depot’s annual electricity costs and carbon emissions.
For comparison, Council currently has approximately 2.2 megawatts of solar installed across 37 sites throughout Brisbane.
Council is also proposing other opportunities to ensure the metro depot is a clean, green and sustainable facility. This includes investigating the use of harvested rainwater across the site, as well as recycled water as part of the metro wash facility.
We are delighted to be involved in such an innovative project that will become part of Brisbane’s infrastructure legacy. We are looking forward to working with RFC Group, ADCO Builders, Nettletontribe Architects and the whole project team.
